Three documents,
one tonnage that adds up

Rebar is bought by the tonne, cut to a bar schedule and fixed on site. When the bar schedule, the delivery note and the invoice each tell a different story, the gap is real money. materialpro lines them up bar size by bar size, so over-billing and short deliveries show before you pay.

Three-way bar reconciliation

Every bar size, three figures, one sheet

The bar schedule says what you need, the delivery note says what arrived and the invoice says what you are being charged. The three sit side by side per size; any size invoiced above what was received is flagged for a person to review before payment.

Sizes invoiced above received: 1

Wastage = (received − required) ÷ required. Required tonnage is what you total by size when you order; received comes from delivery-note receiving; invoiced tonnage is read by AI. This is an illustration of how the three figures sit together, not a screenshot of every field in the product.

The paper trail of one batch

Bar schedule to invoice, five documents in one line

A bar schedule looks like one sheet but passes through five pairs of hands. Each hand-over should leave a record.

  1. 01

    Bar schedule

    Order from the schedule

The bar schedule lists size, shape, length and number of bars. Totalled by size, it becomes the tonnage this part of the works needs.

    Quote and order

Steel prices move fast. Ask several suppliers to quote the same sizes, compare side by side, convert the winner to a PO with one line per size and send it through approval.

  3. 03

    Bundle tags · Cutting list

    Cut and bend

Bars are cut, bent, bundled and tagged, then released in batches against the schedule. Offcuts appear here, and the yard can be set up as its own warehouse.

    Receive on site

Each truck arrives, the foreman photographs the delivery note, AI reads sizes and tonnage and matches them to the PO. Certificates and test reports are checked and filed as you do today.

Six bar sizes

All T bars, but each size is bought differently

Each circle is a bar cross-section at true relative diameter. The bigger the size, the heavier each bar, and one bar short is enough to move the tonnage.

  • T10

    Mass per metre0.62 kg/m

Typical useLinks, distribution bars, light slabs

Buying noteMany bent pieces and offcuts, so wastage tends to show up here first.

  • T12

    Mass per metre0.89 kg/m

    Typical useSlabs, wall distribution bars

Buying noteHigh volume on floor work. Tonnage builds quickly and a few bundles short goes unnoticed.

  • T16

    Mass per metre1.58 kg/m

Typical useBeams, columns, wall main bars

Buying noteMany laps. Schedule lengths must match cutting lengths or bars are re-cut.

  • T20

    Mass per metre2.47 kg/m

Typical useBeam and column main bars

Buying noteHeavier per bar, so check bar count and tonnage on every truck.

  • T25

    Mass per metre3.85 kg/m

Typical useColumn, pile cap and transfer-structure main bars

Buying noteHigh unit price. Half a tonne over-billed is already a meaningful sum.

  • T32

    Mass per metre6.31 kg/m

Typical useLarge columns, pile caps, foundation main bars

Buying noteSmall quantity, high value. Check per delivery, not at month end.

Mass per metre is the theoretical value (steel density 7,850 kg/m³); the supplier's weighbridge ticket and delivery note govern. Typical use depends on the structural design.

Old problems in rebar

Where figures go missing between site and office

  • 01

“The schedule says 12 tonnes of T16, the delivery note says 11.5 and the invoice charges 12.”

Photograph the delivery note and AI reads the received tonnage against the PO. When the invoice arrives it is matched three ways, and over-billing is listed before it is approved.

At the gate

What to check on every truck of rebar

Rebar is structural material, so receiving is more than counting tonnes. Some checks need a person looking at the steel; others can be handled by the system.

Checked by site staff

  • Size on the bundle tag (T or R bar) matches the delivery note
  • Heat number on the mill certificate and test report matches the tag
  • Length, shape and bending match the bar schedule
  • Condition: rust, oil, bending or damage
  • Weighbridge ticket or spot weighing, where the contract asks for it

Handled in materialpro

  • Photograph the delivery note; AI reads sizes and tonnage and matches them to the PO
  • Sizes delivered short or over are listed as variances
  • Receipts go into the stock ledger, booked to the receiving warehouse (site or yard)
  • When the invoice arrives, received tonnage is the basis of the three-way match

Mill certificates, test reports and accredited laboratory documents stay with you, filed as your contract and the regulations require. materialpro does not issue, arrange or replace any certificate.

Site vocabulary

Words used in rebar fixing

So buyer, yard and site all mean the same thing when they order, receive and check.

鋼筋表
Lists the bar size, shape, length and number for each element. Totalled by size into tonnes for ordering.
Bar bending schedule
T 筋
T means high-yield ribbed bar, and the number is the diameter in mm: T16 is 16 mm.
High yield ribbed bar
R 筋
Plain round bar. Priced and used differently from T bars, so a wrong letter on the order buys the wrong steel.
Mild steel round bar
紮鐵
Placing bars to the schedule and tying them into cages or mats with wire.
Steel fixing / rebar fixing
鋼筋屈紮工
The tradesperson who bends and fixes reinforcement.
Bar bender and fixer
加工場
Where bars are cut, bent, bundled and tagged, on site or off.
Rebar processing yard
料頭
Short lengths left after cutting. They count towards wastage and some can be reused.
Offcuts
損耗
The gap between tonnes bought and net tonnes on the bar schedule, mostly cutting loss and offcuts.
Wastage
鋼廠證書/測試報告
The mill's certificate and test results that come with each batch. Checked on receipt.
Mill certificate / test report
爐號
The mill's number for each melt. It ties the certificate to the tag on the bundle.
Heat number
扎絲
Thin wire for tying bar crossings, bought by the coil or the box.
Binding wire / tie wire
墊塊
Blocks between bars and formwork that hold the concrete cover.
Cover block / spacer
箍筋、主筋
Links are the small loops around the main bars; main bars carry the principal tension.

FAQ

What rebar contractors ask

The bar schedule is in metres and pieces but suppliers charge by the tonne. How do we match them?

Both sides first need the same unit: total the schedule by size into tonnes and order one line per size. materialpro does not convert units for you, but the PO, receiving record and invoice are matched in that one unit, so variances are easy to see.

Can mill certificates be stored in materialpro?

materialpro handles procurement, receiving, inventory and invoice records. It is not a certificate archive and does not issue or arrange any certificate. Keep mill certificates and test reports as your contract and the regulations require.

Steel prices move quickly. How do we compare quotes?

Send the same sizes to several suppliers. Suppliers can submit a quote through a link, AI helps read PDF or photo quotes, and you compare side by side before converting the chosen quote to a PO. Price tracking keeps past prices for reference.

Can the processing yard be a warehouse?

Yes. The yard and each site can be set up as separate warehouses. Receipts, issues, transfers and returns are written to the stock ledger one entry at a time, so where offcuts and leftovers went is on record.

Does it connect to our accounting software?

materialpro focuses on procurement, receiving and stock records. How it works alongside your accounting system can be covered in a demo.
