One panel, one ID,
from the factory to the hoist

Curtain wall panels are made off-site, numbered one by one and delivered by floor and bay to be craned into place. materialpro keeps the delivery note, the PO line and the replacement order lined up, so which panel is missing or broken is clear the day it arrives.

Three builds, three ways to check in

Unitised, stick-built and windows arrive differently

Same aluminium and glass, but how it reaches site, how it is counted and where it goes wrong all differ.

Unitised curtain wall

Factory-assembled full panels

How it arrives
Frame, glass and gaskets are assembled into complete panels at the factory, numbered, loaded by floor and bay, and hoisted straight from the truck.
How it is checked in
Panel ID against the delivery note, one ID per panel; a note usually covers one floor or a run of bays.
Where it goes wrong
One broken or mis-floored panel holds up its bay, and a replacement goes back to the factory with a long lead time.

Stick-built curtain wall

Mullions and transoms assembled on site

How it arrives
Mullions, transoms, glass, sealant and hardware arrive in separate drops and are fitted piece by piece.
How it is checked in
Extrusions by length or piece, glass by pane, sealant by tube or carton, each in its own unit.
Where it goes wrong
Miss any one component and the bay cannot be finished; wrong glass sizes mean re-ordering.

Aluminium windows

Made to window type and unit

How it arrives
Measured, then made to window type with glass and hardware, and delivered by unit or by floor.
How it is checked in
By window mark and unit; one type often runs to many quantities.
Where it goes wrong
A wrong measurement or a change order means remaking; many units and types make wrong-unit deliveries easy.

Next step

The shortfall goes on the variance list and a replacement is ordered; the factory needs time, so this bay stays open.

  1. 01

    Photograph the note

Site photographs the delivery note and AI extracts items and quantities.

  2. 02

    Match the PO line

It is matched to the PO, so which type and how many is plain to see.

  3. 03

    Shortfalls listed

Damaged or missing quantities go on the variance list for follow-up.

Long lead times

From submission to hoist, the longest stretch is the factory

Panels are made off-site on a long lead time, then wait for the crane and the weather. Any slip pushes everything after it.

Anatomy of a panel

Four materials, four suppliers

Extrusions, glass, sealant and hardware usually come from different suppliers on different lead times, yet they have to meet in one panel.

    By piece, length or weight
    Watch for
Colour must come from one batch; top-ups risk a mismatch

Daily reconciliation

Four things curtain wall contractors lose sleep over

  1. 01

“This floor is one panel short. Which one hasn't arrived?”

Site photographs the delivery note; AI extracts items and quantities and matches the PO line, listing shortfalls straight away instead of checking note by note.

    Delivery matching

  2. 02

“The glass chipped coming off the truck. How long until the replacement?”

Only undamaged quantities are received and the shortfall lands on the variance list. Site then raises a requisition and the replacement order is placed, with its own record.

    Requisition → replacement PO

  3. 03

“Extrusions, glass, sealant, hardware: how do I compare four sets of quotes?”

Request the same items from several suppliers; AI reads each quotation and sets them side by side, and the chosen one converts to a PO. Suppliers can also submit quotes through a link.

    Request and compare quotes

  4. 04

“The factory invoices by batch and it doesn't tie to what we received.”

Invoices are checked three ways, against the PO and the receiving record, and price or quantity variances come to you before payment.

FAQ

What curtain wall contractors ask first

Our panels carry IDs. How do they tie to the delivery note?

Panel IDs follow whatever numbering you already use and are recorded on the PO line or item description. Once site photographs the delivery note, AI extracts items and quantities and matches the PO, and any short quantity goes on the variance list.

How is a panel of glass damaged on site handled?

Only the undamaged quantity is received and the shortfall is listed as a variance. Site then raises a requisition and the office requests quotes or places the replacement order directly, with its own PO and approval record.

We buy extrusions, glass and sealant from different suppliers. Can we compare them together?

Yes. Request quotes for each material from several suppliers; AI helps read quotation PDFs or photos, lays them side by side, and the chosen quote converts to a PO.

Factory lead times are long. How do we keep track?

Each PO records its expected delivery and the delivery calendar shows arrival dates. With part deliveries or delays, the backorder list shows what is still outstanding.

Does materialpro handle submissions or replace test reports?

No. Shop-drawing submissions, mock-up approvals and test reports stay with your team and the consultant. materialpro covers procurement, receiving, stock and invoice checking; how it connects with your accounting system is something we can cover in a demo.
